Hello
I'm April Nunes Tucker and I've been teaching yoga since 1996. My primary aim whilst teaching groups or in a 1:1 setting is to practice being present; to be wholeheartedly with whomever I'm with. I can offer knowledge gleaned through lived experience of methods that have worked for me in terms of controlling thinking - with the aim of be-ing at ease.

One definition of yoga is: "the control of thought waves in the mind" (Sutra 2, Book 1).

My Story
My PhD was a practical exploration within the context of dance where I investigated the separation of persona (or ego) from 'Real Self' (being). Even though I completed this doctorate over 15 years ago, the areas of investigation, including somatics, phenomenology and Eastern philosophy continue to develop in my teaching today.

My greatest influence however has come from my time spent as a direct student of the silent monk Baba Hari Dass. Under his guidance from 1994-1998, his teachings illuminated practical methods for climbing out of life's trap. I'm still fuelled daily by his generous offerings and practice the mantras, breathing techniques and meditation practices that he shared. I have permission to teach some of these practices and am happy to share them with those who are keen to learn.

Additional influences in my approach to teaching are the physical forms of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga (which I learned from John Scott and Lucy Crawford since 2003) and Yin Yoga (with Norman Blair since 2003). These are the two forms of yoga asana that I offer as classes, workshops and teacher trainings.
Additionally, there are two complementary strands of study that I often weave into 1:1 sessions. First, the area of somatics (primarily from the viewpoint of Dr Moshe Feldenkrais); and second, "The Work of Byron Katie" - which I have practiced since 2020 and have learned how to facilitate.
