In this class April will share techniques taught to her over 30 years ago by the silent monk Baba Hari Dass. Yoga is defined in the Sutras (1:2) as "control over thought waves in the mind". Baba Hari Dass describes the importance of pranayama like this: "The mind works by inhalation and exhalation according to yoga. Inhalation is the thinking mechanism. Exhalation is acting mechanism. By pranayama [breathing techniques] the life force or prana is strengthened and it weakens the undesired thought processes. We get control over the mind." Over the years I have had many people come to me saying they needed help breathing. That they "couldn't catch their breath". Feeling like you can't breathe can have all sorts of adverse knock-on effects from mental anxiety to postural issues. What's more important than your breathing? Now, that's a question to ponder... Delve into the lived experience of these techniques for quieting the mind including breathing and concentration techniques through direct embodied teaching. For centuries these techniques have been passed from teacher to student in this way. April was given permission from Baba Hari Dass in 1996 to teach these techniques. **Please note that some of these practices have contraindications.
